Connecting Generous People with Community Needs to Purchase 1 Million Diapers
Having an adequate supply of diapers is essential for the mental and physical health of babies and their families. In Greater Cincinnati, there are at least 16,000 diaper-wearing children experiencing diaper need each month. Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank is a lifeline for so many loving families who rely on diaper donations to keep their babies happy, healthy and thriving.
Each month, the organization serves over 4,000 children and purchases upwards of 185,000 diapers. These numbers are staggering – which is why when a diaper supplier approached Sweet Cheeks with an offer to purchase nearly 1 million diapers for only $58,000, they knew they had to act. This purchase would save the organization at least $100,000, but there was a catch – the deal was only on the table until the end of the year. Sweet Cheeks did not have the cash on hand to make the purchase and pay for the freight costs.
That’s when an idea struck. Megan Milstead, CEO and Founder of Sweet Cheeks explains:
“I thought, ‘I wonder if GCF can help with this special request.’ At this point, ‘help’ is an understatement. The enthusiasm and speed with which GCF staff and their generous donors jumped on this was overwhelming in the best way possible. Not only are we going to be able to purchase the entire inventory available at this discounted rate, but enough was donated so we don’t have to worry about the freight costs to get multiple semis to us either. We are so grateful to all the donors who believe in our mission and saw how big of an impact this purchase will have on our organization and the families we serve moving into 2025.”
