Local non-partisan initiative seeks to close the gender gap in government representation
Women comprise over 50% of our region but only occupy 30% of government-appointed board seats. Appointed Civic Leadership Academy, an initiative run by the Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, is on a mission to change that.
Rajani Menon, Civic Inclusion Manager for the Women’s Fund, and Meghan Cummings, Vice President of Civic Advancement for the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, appeared on WVXU’s Cincinnati Edition alongside Hamilton County Commissioner Denise Driehaus and Cincinnati Vice-Mary Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney to discuss the importance of gender representation at all levels and how more diverse boards can increase civic engagement and develop better governing practices in local government.
